Photos pre 1940
Early post cards of what was then called
Schmidtlar Kaserne. It was established as a training base for the 42 IR (Bayreuther).

A Kaserne had never before been situated in Hof due to the severe climate. It was understood that "no soldier could withstand the rigors of a Bavarian Siberia".
(Rosenwald, "Hüttner")
Ron Robinson found this postcard on a USAEUR site as a pic of Kingsley Kaserne. It probably dates from 37-39. Kaserne was completed in 1936. If you enlarge the pic, you will NOT see a US or Bundesrepublik flag.
Chet Zaremba supplies this post card of the "Kasernen", probably dating from 1936 or 37.
Another Kaserne postcard, probably about 1936 just after the Kaserne was built.
